Reagan had nothing to with the demise of the Soviets. This is as ridiculous as those who say Clinton had nothing to do with the state of the economy over the last 8 yrs. At the very least what Reagan did can be likened to a boxing match in which an opponent is weak and dazed. Do you go in for the kill or do you give him a chance to catch his breath? He went for the kill. A trusted friend of mine has cited the same info as you regarding the crumbling state of the USSR in the 80's as has tried to convince himself this means Reagan had NO impact on it's demise. I contend that Reagan took the fight to the Soviets, challenged them at every turn, and forced them to expire quicker than would have otherwise happened under less aggressive leadership. My friend is blinded by his dislike for Reagan. He did however make a lot of people richer and poorer in the US and put us in great debt You're smarter than that. You know how the game works. Congress got what it wanted, Reagan got what he wanted, we got the bill.
