Maurice, That's because "how gravity works" is something nobody has a clue about. ... I should really write "what gravity does", which 'is' different from "how gravity works" and 'is' intelligible by watching the effects of gravity on things, such as satellites and apples. So true - I emerged from a physics degree (well, Natural Sciences to be exact) knowing that I did not even begin to understand how gravity works, although I knew a great deal about what it does. The serious bits of what you have written are correct, and the funny bits are superb! John
