Oblomov, you hit the nail on the head. An inflationary depression, the wet dream of gold bugs, is an extremely unlikely event. Even a dollar collapse will not trigger it in the US, since the US is practically self-sufficient in everything or can easily become so with relatively little effort. On the other hand, a plain old deflationary depression is becoming more likely -- although at this point it's still improbable.
