And while AMD really gave Intel a run for the money in overall chip performance, it made all the marketing hay it could on the historically significant clock-speed number.

-That's where I think AMD will have a problem. They made a VERY big deal about reaching 1GHz first. As a matter of fact, I seem to recall several press releases from AMD, rubbing intel's nose in it. Now they're going to say that it really doesn't matter. Whether it's true ot not, I think they're going to have a tough time convincing people their previous proclamations didn't mean anything:

By trying to turn attention away from that number now, it runs the risk of appearing to want to change the subject when it no longer has the perceived advantage. In marketing, appearance is everything. And no one wants to look like a sore loser, even when they aren't.
