Here is another guy who ought to go -- this one a GOP hack who ran against Lieberman. I wonder when Connie Chung will interview him:
DANBURY (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, in his first public comments about sex charges against Waterbury Mayor Philip Giordano, has called on his 2000 Senate rival to resign.
``This has been a sad, sad story,'' Lieberman said Monday in an interview with the editorial board of The News-Times of Danbury. ``I mean, he obviously is not able to serve the city anymore.''
Lieberman, D-Conn., easily defeated Giordano, a Republican, for the Senate seat.
The two-term senator tied the accusations against Giordano, who is held in an undisclosed prison on charges of soliciting sex from a minor, to political scandals involving Bridgeport officials and U.S. Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif.
``These cases are very disappointing and really hurtful because of what we worry they will do to the attitude of the public towards public service and government itself,'' he said. ``Unfortunately, we are seeing ample human imperfection of people in (government) service.''
Four associates of Bridgeport Mayor Joseph Ganim and two contractors have pleaded guilty to charges ranging from racketeering to conspiracy.
Condit has been accused of hindering the Washington, D.C., police probe of missing intern Chandra Levy with whom he reportedly had an affair.
Lieberman said salary increases may attract better people to elected office in Connecticut
``Generally speaking, you get what you pay for,'' he said. ``It's always worth looking at.''
But he said it's difficult for politicians to seek pay increases ``because it seems self-aggrandizing.''
Most of Connecticut's big cities pay mayors between $30,000 and $101,455 a year.
