About the dating set-up and the after-effects of feminism:

I've raised my kids to feel that the responsibility for any relationship, be it friendship, romantic, etc., should be shared, both emotionally and financially. We've talked about how small acts of kindness are a currency of sorts, on both peoples' part. I don't necessarily think that each date should be split down the middle, but the ebb and flow of the financial piece of the relationship should be watched, just as the emotional part is.

It's like my relationships with girlfriends: the best are friendships in which there's a relaxed but fair give-and-take over time. Nothing ruins a friendship faster, IMO, than one-sided giving.
