Yes, this is kind of scary (with respect to backfireability). But as far as convincing customers or finding out "how gullable the consumer really is", remember, AMD doesn't need to convince 100%, or 80% or even 60%. They're already convincing ±20%, so another 5 or 10% is all they're shooting for (in the near term).

In the longer term (i.e. hammer) they will hopefully pull out a rabbit or two (after sufficient time to stuff the hat).

Still, I agree, model-hurtz isn't an easy idea to swallow, and there are numerous pitfalls. Especially considering the <sarcasm> marketing giant </sarcasm> we're talking about here.

EDIT: My worry is that the ±70% that don't buy it may just become all-the-more entrenched in the Intel camp. Not sure why I'm worried about that -- this thread is proof positive that neither camp gets further entrenched! <g>
