Looked like you had a winner there, CD. But fame is so fleeting, and crowds, they're like birds on a wire. I debated for sometime before bringing up this book, for two reasons. The first is that it is not literature. The second is that I have never seen a copy, have never read it, and quite possibly no one ever has, cover to cover.

Nonetheless, I say it may well have had the greatest influence on the written English word in the 20th century.
Elements of Style, by E. B. White.
