About Mike's roadmap article:

There were a few points which seemed wrong. For one thing, he implied that K7 family would stop production in 2002Q2 while Socket A would last until 2002Q4, but that doesn't make any sense because (A) it would mean that motherboard makers would be making motherboards for six months without any processors to put into them, and (B) more importantly, it implies that AMD would try to pretty much instantaneously shift their entire production to a completely different platform and microarchitecture, which is something which we just do not do.

Meanwhile, that comment about SOI is strange.

On the other hand, I can believe comments about the K8 being closer than expected, since expectations are astonishingly far into the future. But Intel's worst nightmare is that AMD has a hundred million Sledge Hammers in OEM hands right now, all designed and already packaged into systems and ready for a surprise introduction in one hour. I doubt that K8 is any closer than that, and I suspect that it is actually a lot farther away than that.
