Banks could, for example, loosen up their loans requirements a bit, give stores a bit more to buy holiday goods ahead of time Improve the producers sales sheets. Lotta litlle stuff to do. I dont think they liked the 9K Dow stuff, which could make 10% of all Dow stock equity value vanish.

So if I understand you, you feel that the job of the Federal Reserve is now to manage the stock market averages? And I guess you think that part of the problem with the economy is that lending has been too TIGHT at banks, rather than recklessly easy? And even though the stock market is still grossly overvalued (consider that the Nasdaq 100 is not even profitable, or that the P/E of the S&P 500 is double its historical average), the Fed and the banks should all pull together to print even more money and lend even more of that money to high bankruptcy risks, just to pump up the stock market so that the inevitable crash can be just that much more painful?

Good thinking.
