ICO Selects Tekelec's Sentinel for Monitoring Satellite-enabled Services Monitoring and business intelligence platform to monitor services in 10-plus countries biz.yahoo.com MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 2001-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC) announced today that London-based ICO Global Communications has selected the Tekelec Sentinel monitoring and business intelligence platform to provide surveillance of its signaling network. Sentinel will monitor satellite-enabled personal mobile global communications services.
``We are initially rolling out Sentinel to monitor signaling services at our satellite access node sites, including those in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, and United States,'' says Alex Sinclair, director of Network Engineering, ICO. ``We will be expanding the SS7 (signaling system 7) monitoring by adding equipment at the network management center sites at Uxbridge and Slough, near London. We want to ensure that we have the best capability to monitor the performance of our SS7 links in the global network during and after rollout of global voice and data services.''
Michael Caputo, vice president and Sentinel business unit manager in the Tekelec Network Systems Division, adds, ``We are excited to team with ICO in the expansion of its sophisticated satellite-enabled services worldwide. Sentinel enables ICO to perform network surveillance as well as support a number of revenue assurance applications on a single platform. It will help ICO identify revenue leakage as well as contain costs.''
About Sentinel
The Sentinel system handles both large and small network deployments. Through its unique combination of passive network monitoring, proactive testing capabilities, and powerful revenue assurance tools, Sentinel not only reduces network-operating costs, it helps carriers identify revenue leakage. With its ability to evolve with SS7 and Internet protocol (IP) networks, Sentinel provides visibility to critical data used by engineering, operations, marketing, and finance departments, enabling network providers to remain competitive and ensure the quality of services they provide. Sentinel monitors and collects data from services implemented across SS7 and IP networks, from the transport layer to the service layer. Service providers can maintain SS7 and IP signaling networks with complete reliability and security.
Sentinel helps service providers manage vital assets as well as networks and services. The traffic analysis feature supplies several reports, which provide a quick-and-easy view of network utilization. Sentinel's call detail record generator generates critical data used for billing analysis, fraud detection, and data mining. In addition, Sentinel contains the tools needed by Operations Center personnel to quickly and efficiently monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network problems.
