Thanks for that. Hentoff is one of my heros. He is one of the few people whose column I read religiously. I don't always agree with him, but I always respect his views and his absolute integrity. He is what I consider a "classic liberal," holding the views which were considered liberal before that term became degraded and twisted out of recognition (an issue I argued on LWP many months ago). I'll mention again his favorite book of mine, one that I think should be mandatory reading in every high school and college civics class in America: "Free Speech for Me but Not for Thee." Beautifully argued, very powerful, and has so far made no difference to what is sometimes referred to as the "PC Police." Get it and read it.
