Hitachi to halt DRAM production - report NEW YORK, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics giant Hitachi Ltd plans to suspend production of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips at its Singapore facility, its only DRAM production plant, Jiji Press reported. Jiji, monitored here, said the electronics giant responded to a depression in the semiconductor market and will lay off almost all of its 1,300 employees there. According to Jiji, Hitachi will consider the feasibility of converting production at the facility into other semiconductor products after confirming the market trend. biz.yahoo.com
