Did you see the movie about stevie smith? It was very well done. Make sure you see it if you can find it. I might have a copy of it around here. I'll check.

As you know one of my favorite poems is by Stevie Smith- Was He Married.

I read that poem when I was very young, 11 or 12, and it spoke to me. I've never forgotten that poem. I also have never forgotten the Garden of Proserpine because of these lines, and excuse me if I get them a bit wrong:

We thank with brief thanksgiving
whatever Gods there be
that no man lives forever
that dead men rise up never
that even the weariest river winds somewhere safe to sea

I cannot tell you how many times those lines come to me. It's not an especially brilliant poem. But the sentiment feels like it is part of me.
