Ah, yes. The wonderful results of getting government involved in business.

I know the answer is "Because he wouldn't get re-elected and his hopes for the 2004 Dem Presidential nomination would die", but why couldn't he keep the state gov't out of the power business, and particularly the power-retailing business? Just let the full cost flow on the consumer? You think we've seen energy conservation in this state now? The results of that would have made the efforts so far look piddling.

And between that and the new power plant construction that greedy capitalists looking for huge profits would have financed, the price of power would have fallen sooner. If the state would stay out of the way.
