The first syndrome would be a whole lot easier to take if the second syndrome weren't happening concurrently!

You know, I don't want to shock the people who think I am Earth Mom incarnate, but this Home Alone thing isn't all bad. I am finally watching movies with absolutely not one drop of blood or one alien lifeform in them. I can cook tofu without having being subjected to a barrage of gagging noises, and the bathrooms seem to be almost self-cleaning.

I have the boys trained to ICQ me every day or so with one sentence so I know they are alive and that suffices to put my mind at ease.
I think I miss all the little people they were, all the different stages... but perhaps there will still be stories and memories to add. This isn't necessarily like falling into a childless abyss.

In fact, the other night as I poured a glass of wine and prepared to broil a small steak and watch a movie of my own choice (Dan was out of town), the little ICQ voice called out UHOH! (the signal that someone has called- if you are not an ICQ user). It was Ammo; he had a monologue due the next day and he couldn't remember his audition one, and did I remember it? Or would I search his room for it? Or call someone? Just do something! HELLLP, MOM!!!!
It took an hour, but I located a copy of the play right there on campus at one of the USC libraries.

So he's not gone at all--he's just invisible. He has joined the ranks of my cyber-family.
