Hi Meathead,
Interesting comments in your message. By the way, I can tell you that I do remember the "old bath tub curve". I spent my career in the computer industry and worked in engineering, quality assurance, reliability engineering, etc.
By the way, where did you get your percentage failures from? Normally, these figures are get quite. By the way, aren't the failure rates measured in PPM today?
GTW being around to honor a three year warranty is a toss up. Only time will tell how they manage their way out of the mess that they are in.
I'm sure all the PC box makers do some sort of worse case design to ensure the RAM and other internal components work within the design margins for voltage and temperature variations, etc. There must be some type of engineering specs for these products. Or, at least I hope so. <VBG>
By the way, the GTW pc that I posted on the thread is a pretty good deal. Especially when GTW's sales told me that they would knock a few hundred off the price if I place an order then and there. Even if GTW disappeared, I could fix the pc myself. Of course, I would have to buy the replacement components.
Interesting times. What a mess the industry has gotten into.
By the way, I came close to buying some more Dell shares today. Think I'll wait until we hit the teens.
