Using MHz to compare speeds is only done in PCs. Workstations and servers are completely beyond that. There are so many different architectures to choose from, most of them sporting multiple CPUs - and none of them delivering equal IPC.

Itanium would never need to compete on operating frequency, only actual performance. (unless it happened to debut as a consumer chip soon, which I think is highly improbable).
