Art: In a perfectly rational world, service providers would eagerly switch to a system that is more efficient, less costly, with less spectrum requirements than competing systems.

In this capital restrictive environment operators are going to deploy what is a "known" commodity.. And that is VOICE!! Investment Capital for an "unkown qualifier" like High Speed Mobile Data goes to the bottom of the pile..

I coined the term "WDMA Technology" late last year on the GSTRF thread.. "We Don't have Money Anymore".

It is a Universal Technology that is deployable on any network..

As I have postulated on various occasions.. If you were Vodaphone.. And you had a commodity like VOICE that was a known business model.. And you had a bunch of expensive spectrum sitting around generating ZERO revenue... Along with a bunch of cell sites with the Core Network stuff already installed and operating on 900Mhz. What would be the "cheapest investment" you could make to generate revenue from that NEW spectrum??
