The fact is that the dominant companies in wireless telephony are able to control the speed of innovation, where and when it takes place, and which technology will be used.

And they have proven this capability with the whole WCDMA VW-40 smoke-screen.

circa 1998.... Operators.. Don't chose that crappy NARROW BAND CDMA stuff.. We are going to have WIDEBAND CDMA.. aka as the good stuff.. And remember... It's the WCDMA standard..a worldwide standard that is.. ETSI says so!! Just wait until next year.. 1999, I mean 2000, or 2001, well then again.. 2002 or 2003 at the latest, Well, OK Let's say 2004!!

In the mean time we have a whole suite of upgrades for your existing networks.. EDGE, GPRS, and we have Intelligent Frequency Hopping (IHF) (remember that one?)..

press.nokia.com

In the end.. It will be.. Well, this WCDMA stuff is going to be really expensive, and large, and consume waaaay too much power.. And we don't really know if there is even a defined market for High Speed Mobile Data.. but, we know there is one for VOICE..

So maybe you should just launch GSM/GPRS on your Greenfield Spectrum.. After all, you already have the cell sites. And you already have the MAP core network at the site.. So all you need is to stick up another antenna, and add some cheap Base Station Equipment... Oh!! Look.. We have some of this stuff in the lab already. (If you don't think someone at Nokia dosen't already have this stuff running.. You are fooling yourself!!)

And now you can gererate some revenue from that spectrum!!

Check out these nifty new 4 band GSM phones we have also!!
