All I am seeking is an understanding of the nature and origin of our rights. Are they bestowed at the whim of society, or are they self-evident truths. I certainly do not know the answer. But I think this forum is an appropriate avenue of research. The law has recognized the rights of the individual at least as far back as Hammurabi, around 2000 B.C. They are not modern inventions. They are trans-cultural and have been with mankind since the dawn of history.
