I don't think we can think outside the box- we are part of the system, we can't be outside the system and in it at the same time. It's a limitation we'll just have to learn to live with I think. But that's just my opinion. If you manage to get outside the system let me know.

I differ, in the definition of what the box is. I'd never thought of it as this system we're in. My definition would run closer to 'open-minded' or 'objective', but neither hits it perfectly. Among other things, it means the ability to view things from numerous perspectives, the willingness and ability when given a choice of A or B to find C - or a conclusion that satisfies the question without A, B, or C or any choice.... it means the capacity to see past the prevailing wisdom..... it means to love the truth enough to range wide and far, to bright places and dark, in pursuit of it. It means to find a reasonable concrete answer but not give it out till you've chinked away at every tiny crack in a concrete wall, mulling it over for days, looking for more light. (Not to say that all thought & decision requires such, but some). It means being creative and adventurous in that pursuit, because truth alone is not the goal; effectiveness is often the target.

The box is merely a conventional conclusion easily reached, without much rigorous investigation.

I think. But I could be wrong.
