All I am seeking is an understanding of the nature and origin of our rights.
Are they bestowed at the whim of society, or are they self-evident truths.

This thread has spent a lot of its time discussing that very subject. As Neo said, there are two schools of thought. I am of the view that they are a societal agreement. There are many lined up on both sides. I think that the one thing that is clear from our discussions is that there's no way to know for sure. But you're welcome to keep working at it. The thread never seems to tire of it.

My interest in the subject is not what the answer is, because I don't think we can know. My interest is what we, as a society, do with the recognition that there are two schools of thought.
