Intel used their compilers to make Coppermine look good on SPEC95 as well. That was the exact same benchmark AMD used to launch Athlon. Nothing has changed, which means SPEC2000 is just as legitimate as SPEC95 was.

Don't pretend that SPEC95 isn't legitimate, because that was exactly the benchmark used by Dirk Meyer in his 6/10/1999 dinner presentation.
