If this market has taught us anything, it's that most if not all of the "conventional wisdom" has been wrong.

It depends on whose "conventional wisdom" you listen to. Some has proven to be quite accurate. For example, I have learned that I need to broaden my horizons as an investor, that stocks go both up AND down for extended periods of time, that not all dips are "buying opportunities", that there is more to life than neutral-to-bullish strategies, and that those TA guys just might not be so crazy after all. What I learned was to take more into account than just gorilla characteristics. That includes but is not limited to valuation, TA, asset allocation strategies, hedging, and that the market is always right (i.e. when the market says you're wrong, you're wrong). Most germane to this discussion is the knowledge that options are simply a tool which can be used to optimize the implementation of other strategies, but should never be viewed as an end in themselves.

P.S. Sorry for the rant, but it's a weekend and we're sharing...
