Sudan: Helig continues to run smoothly - Talisman
Dow Jones, August 31

KHARTOUM: Operations at Talisman's Helig oilfield in Sudan are running smoothly, an official has told Dow Jones in response to rumours that rebels crippled the plant earlier this month.
The oilfield continues to pump about 225,000 barrels a day, and only suffered a 12-hour disruption after the incursion Aug. 5, said the company spokesman, who asked that his name not be published.

"Helig produces net to Talisman 50,000 barrels a day, or 10 per cent of our overall production," he said. "If we were out of operation, it would be a material change and would have to be disclosed."

Sudanese rebels have increased their claims of damage to include: a complete shutdown of the oilfield; injuries inflicted by the Sudan People's Liberation Army; and even oilfield staff deaths. However, the rebel bulletins haven't been confirmed by independent news agencies or by the Canadian government.
