I do not think you have to be a theist to observe self-evident truths such as freedom of religion.

However, rationalism has been infected by scientism as well.
It appears that you are saying that you can get to these self-evident truths without being a theist. Then you must be able to adhere to them too.
So what does it matter if you believe in rational, cause-and-effect universe with no god(s)?
