Steve, The SCSI controllers will make it easy for most
PC users to add faster peripherals. The SCSI insider
came with its own SCSI card, but it didn't support
other devices. IOM sold a specific SCSI card for the external
SCSI Zip, but I don't believe it supported any other devices,
plus I believe it was an extra $50. I think there are some
drawbacks to this. The uninformed user can just daisy
chain extra drives to their machine, but I think the
drivers that come with SCSI cards aren't necessarily
standardized--they don't all seem to be compatible, and
the PC setup is sometimes confusing. IOM has done a good
job with their install disks not asking confusing questions
and giving the installer options, similar to AOL. Not that
I like AOL, but I think their install programs are quite
a feat. I think they cover most of the numerous different
possible hardware configurations that it encounters.

I believe Zip drives can be formatted with different drivers as well.
I'm not sure they are incompatible, but I can see this
as a potential problem when sharing disks. When disk software
makers start touting improved performance using their drivers...
These disks formatted with different drivers should be usable,
but uninformed users may just blame faulty disks or equipment.
