The outcome will be similar - big incumbents do have advantage and usually do react and usually do hold their position. But look at that hot-blooded little mammal QUALCOMM which took on and defeated the might of the incumbents. Leap Wireless is doing fine. Not all the Mom and Pop wireless operators are doing fine! Most of the little new entrants fail.

Wireless is also different in that there is no twisted-pair barrier to entry. Competitors can enter the business in many ways, from huge buildouts such as NextWave's to niche businesses such as Leap's [pretty big niche actually] and little basestations for individual businesses. Don't forget NewGlobalstar will soon be in business with 10 billion minutes to sell [or 15 billion with relatively easy development].
