Heatsinker, many years ago Intel may have had eyes on the desktop market for Itanium, but those are long gone. After Intel repositioned Itanium as a 64-bit high end server chip for competition against Sun in the enterprise market, people continued to project that it would be a "dud", but it has not been. It has already been received quite warmly by the press, and by all the top tier OEMs. Some of the critics still entertain fantasies that Itanium will fail, but I think those people are just deluding themselves. I figure your definition of "dud" isn't exactly meant to define a product that will soon become vitally successful for Intel's future. Or maybe you can define for how much of a "dud" you think Itanium is?
