That story about Ellison exercising options and selling shares is really old news. He did all of that last January, when the stock price was in the 30's, and he probably did it because the options were expiring this year (that is, the options were expiring this year, and I believe that this is why he exercised and sold when he did).

I guess that the story is being run now because ORCL is at a low, and this intrepid reporter wants to show that Ellison knew that the economy would slow and the market would tank in August when he sold the shares in January. However, if her memory went back that far, she'd recall that he and a lot of other software executives (including Siebel) were blindsided by the way software sales fell off a cliff at the end of February.
