Wow, that's spectacular! I would have imagined improvements in the single digits percentage range for memory bandwidth in Sandra over AMD760 but certainly not 25-30%. I think we underestimated VIA. Both their new Athlon and their P4 chipset seem to perform extremely well. Looks like their experience in designing DDR memory controllers pays off big time.

With these benchmark scores in mind AMD will be able to compete with P4 much better in memory dependant benchmarks like Media Encoder or Quake III. Even in SPECfp2000 we should see a big improvement. So AMD's new performance rating will be even more conservative than we previously thought and AMD will probably be able to regain the performance crown with the 1.53 GHz Palomino. That's certainly very good news after all those setbacks in the last few months.
