Andreas: So AMD's new performance rating will be even more conservative than we previously thought

I'm beginning to think JC is right. The new performance rating won't be normalized against P4, but rather against Tbird. This makes perfect sense (and leaves a much better taste in my mouth): AMD had / have a serious problem with Palomino. It clearly performs much better than Tbird, but AMD can't sell it (desktop) for more because the frequency isn't higher. In this case, it makes perfect sense to introduce an "internal" (company specific) number so customers can compare the speed of various Athlon processors they see at the store.

AMD is still interested in getting chips labeled by performance for competitive reasons as well, of course ;-).
