FOMA (3G) is in a testing phase now and will be rolled starting in October. The present FOMA service is pretty good considering that it's a very complex and new technology - many things (software, hardware...) have to work together to have it running smoothly. My thinking is that FOMA will become big when it covers most of Japan, which will still take some time. Concerning the pricing, DoCoMo recently is pretty good at pricing services strategically. I guess they cannot roll out FOMA to the general mass market now. The pricing looks reasonable within Japan's circumstances, where ARPU's are pretty high.

Note that FOMA/3G is not just a question of technology - technology is only one component, there are many others to make it work, such as having the right business models. Actually, that is a point where many companies in the wireless internet space outside Japan have major problems.

We have a FOMA/3G section in the imode-faq, which we are constantly updating and you'll find further information there: eurotechnology.com

We also recently started a 4G section: eurotechnology.com
