"Prove it" economy. I'd say the market is now telling companies "prove it" that your stock is worth X amount.
This is strictly a case of economic evolution. The sure survivors are the ones you want to put your money in when we're around the lows. Look at market cap, cash-debt, probable future strengths, product quality and market share.
Companies with positives on all the above "prove it" to me especially if their stocks have been creamed and there are over-zealous shorts on them. Or even a nice safe IBM or VZ would fit the bill.
