we just said goodbye to #2 leaving the nest

I know that's tough. Rambi did that last week and she was a bit teary, too. Is there a number 3?

First some females eat their young as well. Fish for example. Same question; Why aren't they considered evil?

I don't think fish can be evil. They don't have the cognitive powers to appreciate good and evil. Human women in times past have sacrificed their young when some defect in the one jeopardized the lives of the rest. For example, you're being chased by a mastodon and the lame kid can't keep up. I don't think that's evil, in context, either. In our current society it's not a choice that needs to be made so we consider it evil. Of course, what Yates did was horrid. I'm not going to make any excuses for her, although I would spread the blame around a bit to her husband and probably her shrink.

I just heard a quote from her brother where he said "I have never seen her happier".

I was stunned by that statement just as you were. What I supposed he meant was that her meds were working and she seemed herself again. Or that the stressors in her life were no longer doing a job on her. If she's actually happy, that's disgusting. And even if she is actually happy, it's very poor judgment on his part to broadcast it. It doesn't make her at all sympathetic, which is what she needs to be right now if he wants her life to be spared.

Actually there is.

I think that you are equating godliness and goodness. There are plenty of good people in the world who aren't religious. I don't see why you refuse to accept that. Haven't you ever known of even one?

Frankly, not only does the whole of recorded history contradict you, but last century there were numerous discoveries of yet unknown societies that "ALL" have moral notions that are strikingly similar to ours. Coincidence you say? I think not.

Baloney. First of all, you're talking about recorded history. The fact that societies had evolved to the point that they could record anything means that they had a lot in common. What about all the societies that never got to that point? How different might they have been? And what do you mean by strikingly similar? It's a matter of degree. There have been cannibal societies during my lifetime. Some societies still eat their dead. As for the similarities, I'm not claiming coincidence. Coincidence is not the only alternative to God-given morality.

You know, Greg, you're often making absolute statements and all I'm saying is that there are alternative explanations, only one of which is yours.

even though the golden rule as it is known, is actually silver, being only #2 on the priority scale.

Only if you believe in God. If you don't, it's the golden rule. That's why I say it's secular. If it were religious, it would be silver, as you say.

It was interesting to se the divergent list of life priorities that was passed around recently. How do you think yours compared to God's?

Yes, I find that stuff interesting, too. Regarding my list, I think God would like it just fine. The only way God wouldn't like my list is if He were so thin-skinned that He felt dissed that I didn't value obedience and salvation. I'd like to think that God, if He exists, is bigger than that. I think my list represents the importance to me of personal integrity and being a supportive member of society and the low value I place on the frivolous and mundane. I would think God would approve of that.
