Ref < HP- Compaq merger >

The history of computer company mergers is not great !

Remember Burroughs and Univac mergeed to form Unisys. Most people dont even know what Unisys does anymore. Previously Memorex had been absorbed by Burroughs.

Cray,CDC,Digital are other great names which were merged into oblivion. NCR was absorbed by AT&T and is now a faded memory.

Obviously there will be a lot of pink slips in Palo Alto and Houston. By reducing the overhead costs the new entity is trying to stay profitable. But the history of "two drowning partners merging to form a succesful venture" is poor.
