John, you underestimate Mike.
First, he is extremely altruistic. He posts firm statements that Stock X is overvalued, to warn away prospective buyers and get them to avoid what he sees as almost sure losses. It is for their sake only that he posts these remarks. (By the way he has a great track record in these statements. A short seller could make money following his pronouncements.)
Second he wants a life free from having everyday to consider a buy/sell decision about a company that he admires. When and if he ceases to admire it (= see it as a gorilla), he will sell it. His goal is not to make the absolute most money but to make a satisfactory pile PLUS have an enjoyable life and help others. Some people enjoy asking themselves SELL? HOLD? every day; others don't.
He is rationally maximizing the quality of his life.
