Third eye, It has made for a number of artivles in Atlantic. It seems that the growth of the power base of the ultr-orthodox has been a concern for a while in Israel. They lost some ground when the CIS broke up and large numbers of Russian Jewry immigrated, but now they are on the rise again. certain areas of Israel get cordoned off every friday at sundown to prevent car traffic. These are the neighboiurhoods that are largely orthodox and they practice coercion against their non orthodox neighbours and in time they move out and the ghetto expands. I supect that they are trying hard to keep the youth and having large families is their only way to battle the breakup as their own youth scatters as they get sick of the regime. That is why they try to close off areas, they want to remove any comparison base from the view of the youth. Bill
