Dust off your RESUMES, can you imagine the amount of layoffs as a result of this deal? Wonder if they will eventually do away with those UGLY Compaq designs and BULKY equip. What do you think they will name the new company; Compacklett? Funny how the Nikki responds to the CPQ news. LOL I know a lot about CPQ given they started near my backyard. I believe CPQ threw in the towel. Merger mania begins...not YHOO....but HWP buying CPQ: Whew .. smells bad already .. Ludicrous that this HP/Compaq merger can cause Asian and European markets to surge! I did like HP, but now all they've transformed into is just yet another money-losing commodity.. err, computer firm. So we're down to DELL, GTW, HWP as the holy pc trinity? Of course, in 24 hours, I can buy & build something better than the COW & PIG above; only the Farmer on the DELL competes. Roger, I don't understand the logic either. Maybe CPQ is good for its server business. I think buying CPQ at a premium price is dumb for HWP and worthy of a short. Why buy a competitor that you can bury? The winner in this transaction may be Dell. Maybe short HWP and buy DELL. If nobody takes Gateway, it'll go out of business. I think HP's acquisition of Compaq will be just as successful as Compaq's acquisition of DEC. I awake this morning in cloudy Berlin to see HP buying Compaq-- interesting! I wonder how HP got sucked into that deal. God help them. Neither company has a business model that is working. Now they have to handle the merger as well. Go figure HP to buy CPQ Dell will cut throat to steal mkt share from the hp-cpq merger...Mikey is already at work=you can count on that. DELL raised from attractive to buy at Bear Stearns
