Why bother with high availability unless you have high-performance high-available servers too. Servers are the Internet as you well know. Your argument was that the network was the Internet, which you backed with a clip about Local Director. Putting Local Director in front of a load of unreliable, difficult to adminstrate windows servers does not make for a highly available system. Sorry.

I know that's what your customers want, but that's not what most businesses need, as they will find out to their cost.

And Local Director is still an expensive piece of hardware which doesn't know anything about the traffic above the IP layer, and can only make limited decisions about load-balancing and fail-over as a result. Better solutions direct at the HTTP layer, and include session failover and algorithmic load balancing. All with a simple Linux box and some C software. Please feel free to correct me if I have the facts wrong.
