Frontier Oil (FTO) 17.74 +0.64: Company issues upside preannouncement for Q3 (Sep), expecting at least $0.85 for Q3 compared to the First Call analysts' consensus estimate of $0.28 (analyst estimate does not take into account the impact of FIFO inventory accounting used by Frontier); management sees the FIFO inventory impact to be a positive $0.05 to $0.10 per share for quarter; expects the strong Q3 results to raise company's estimate for 2001 year-end earnings to at least $4.10 per share; First Call consensus is $4.03; see press release.
