What would be the effect on the real estate market of upticks in interest rates to 8.5% - 9% for a 30 year mortgage?

Would the effect be profound, or would it be a simple leveling off?

Would refinancing grind to a halt? Would the demand for the high end real estate grind to a halt because of the prohibitively high interest rates on the principle?
