YAGA COMPLETES SECOND ROUND OF FUNDING E-Delivery Company Poised to Usher in New Era of Internet Commerce
FOSTER CITY, Calif., June 8, 2001 - Yaga, Inc., the newly formed e-delivery infrastructure company that enables digital content owners to "monetize" their assets, announced it has completed a $15.2 million series B round of funding. Investors include InfoSpace, Inc.; Andojo I, LP; MeVC Draper Fisher Jurvetson Fund I; The Individuals Venture Fund (Seed) Q.LP; Altotech II, LP; and the two founders, Chris Kitze and Vijay Vaidyanathan.
Yaga's flagship product, Yaga Publish, is an end-to-end solution for distributing digital files securely, reliably and cost-effectively. Designed from the bottom up with security and copyright protection in mind, Yaga is a file-centric platform that helps solve the digital distribution bottleneck by leveraging the best of peer-to-peer and distributed computing.
"We are in the business of helping digital content owners make money with their digital assets," said Chris Kitze, founder and CEO of Yaga. "With this second round of funding, we will be able to expand our product offerings and move quickly to profitability."
"We see great potential in peer-to-peer technology, especially in the wireless space," said Naveen Jain, founder, chairman and CEO of InfoSpace, Inc. "InfoSpace is delighted to be involved in Yaga and believe Chris' latest venture is positioned to take advantage of some exciting opportunities."
"Our e-delivery infrastructure solves a problem that digital content owners have been struggling with for years," said Kitze. "Because security, reliability and copyright protection are built into the platform, Yaga leapfrogs all first-generation file-sharing offerings and ushers in a new era in Internet commerce."
Yaga Publish allows businesses to build their own peer-to-peer (P2P) network for publishing, searching and retrieving digital files. In addition to ensuring fast, secure and reliable delivery, it provides next-generation file search capabilities unavailable through traditional search engines. Yaga Publish also allows content owners to maintain control over distribution. It features three components:
Yaga Share - a file-sharing client for Yaga-supported networks.
Yaga Search - a Web-based distributed search platform with a P2P supported index. Yaga Download - a fast and reliable Web-based function for the retrieval of files.
