Reuters rolls out Oracle HRMS System across 90 countries in a weekend London, Sep 04, 2001 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Reuters, the global information, news and technology group, has become the first multinational organisation to achieve a simultaneous rollout of an Oracle Human Resources Management System across all its locations worldwide. The company's internal Information Systems team undertook the groundbreaking exercise, migrating thirty different legacy human resources systems covering ninety countries during one weekend to a single global database based in its Docklands Technical Centre in London. The Oracle R11i E-Business Suite eliminates the cost and complexity of managing multiple systems in disparate locations.
The new system provides a single employee database to cover all Reuters staff, wherever they are based. It forms the foundation for a complete Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution based upon the Oracle E-Business Suite of applications and will eventually support all the finance, procurement and logistics requirements of the company.
More than 18 months of careful planning, design and preparation were required before the system went live last month. The Information Systems team, lead by Ian Mcatamney and based in London, Geneva, Singapore and New York, developed specific modules for the data migration, which allowed them to achieve the simultaneous rollout. The modules automatically migrated 350 million data items from the legacy databases into the new global system during the 48-hour rollout.
Mike Sayers, Reuters Chief Technology Officer, said, "Reuters is a multinational company with staff throughout the world. As part of Reuters Business Transformation Programme we've replaced the different country systems with one HRMS from Oracle so now we have one unique record for every employee no matter where they are in the world."
Ian Smith, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Oracle Corporation UK, Ireland, South Africa, commented, "Reuters has set the standard for multinational enterprises who want to drive down the cost and time of global ERP implementations. This implementation has transformed the way in which Reuters approach HR. They can now start to use the Oracle HRMS system to reduce the cost of administrating their human capital and potentially improve the HR manager to employee ratio. In the light of this achievement, organisations worldwide should review their phased implementation programmes to see whether or not they can achieve the same fundamental benefits."
