I've read over this a few times and was trying to think of how I could scrub it, but I'm drawing a blank. The artical is pretty matter-of-factly written.

LD is a commodity. While it brings in a great deal of cash, the margins are low and it isn't an outstanding growth business. Data was where the money and growth has been for the last few years.

The problem with the traded market for data pipes currently is that the contract that the energy traders want to work under is pretty terrible for a starter contract. Also, the people reviewing the contracts are telecom people, not trading people, so there is a learning curve. In my experience, anything that requires thought takes time.
