BTW, if Intel is in fact able to keep the clockrate/performance distance between themselves and AMD (which I believe they can), then they could weather this slowdown very easily.

You might want to walk through the numbers in anandtech.com and anandtech.com , to observe exactly how much of a performance "distance" Intel has achieved with a chip that's 150% bigger. In plenty of cases, the "distance" is negative. Intel certainly leads in the ability to shove inefficient parts down people's throats and promote silly frequency numbers as a "performance" measure, and that's got to be worth something. Anybody who'd pay 5 times as much for an Intel chip that performs no better than the top of the line Athlon deserves to be divested of their hard earned cash.

For further amusement, you can observe Intel having it both ways on P4 operating frequency versus Itanic operating frequency.
