Hi Ramsey, welcome to the thread. Yes, Greenspan climbed the roof, and he saw Compaq and Hewlett doing the naughties there. CPQ + HWP = 1 + 1 = 1.5.

(a) market cap of both companies went down

(b) bond issued by both companies has less equity backing

(c) 15-20k employees will be booted out without hesitation

(d) more employees to be booted out after due consideration

(e) still more, after deciding "WTH"

(f) followed by other mergers driven by the same bankers and leaders, all looking for a cut of the flesh

(g) outsourcing manufacturing of less boxes

(h) PC industry becomes more efficient, but all becomes 'poorer'

(i) California and Houston real estate will take a hit

(j) The upside? They may introduce a Compaq brand of the laser printer, using the same printer engine that HWP uses, made by Canon

(k) Dell may rifle a bunch of confused CPQ/HWP customers, and do a virtual deal with Legend for contract manufacturing, as a response to increased competitiveness of CPQ/HWP, and thus strengthen the USD due to increased cross-border trade

(l) Consumers can buy still more computers with less of a home equity loan

(m) Best of all, Greenspankie's productivity increase is intact due to hedonism and irrational corporate strategy
