I have nothing to do with handhelds or cell phones.

I do often work with people who travel a lot. Many carry a full four batteries with them to avoid running out of power. Better ability to conserve power would be a big selling point for those people. They'd be demanding upgrades whether they needed more processing power or not.

Hell, I can often run the batteries dead on a simple cross-country trip. If there's a bit of a delay in departure and I can't find a power outlet in the departure area, that extra hour will easily run through the two batteries I usually have with me.

Of course, the processor isn't the only thing consuming power in there. A lower power screen would help too (I usually recommend smaller screens for people who really need battery life), but that's obviously not something Intel is directly involved in.
