I have merely been defending the general right to collect taxes. That is a straw man argument. No one denies that. Here are the arguments: That the Federal Government (this is a national forum after all) is trying to fill too many functions that are way beyond the scope of what it was intended to do, or has proven incapable of doing, or that actually do measurable harm. That as a result, the amount of taxes they collect to support these illegitimate enterprises is grossly too high. That the tax code is a horrible disgrace to a country this great. That as proof of all this, if not for the fact that a gun is pointed at our heads, the great majority of tax payers would not pay up.
